What I love about Radical Vixen is her passion; how she effortlessly merges the political and the perverse, (often the most perverse IS the political) in her blog in the same way she does in her life. Not bogged down by labels, Radical Vixen is always authentic and true to her heart and beliefs. You can see some of those aspects of her personality in the choice of photos she sent. I say choice, but it was hard for me to choose, so I pretty much used most of them. Better for us all!

Radical Vixen is a sex worker, hippie, activist and blogger. She’s been a phone sex operator for over eight years and occasionally stars in fetish spanking videos and photos. Vixen is a contributor to $pread Magazine. When not traveling, her and her husband live in the southwest surfing the web off solar power. She blogs about peace, porn and politics at RadicalVixen.com

Radical Vixen is offering a chance to win a Natural Contours BonBon Vibe when you buy a day on the 2011 calendar with the code VIXEN. Remember you can combine codes, getting signed photos of Sexie Sadie and Dangerous Lilly, a mixtape from Matthew Lawrence, 15% off your order at MauiKink.com and a chance to win the Sexy NYC Nightlife Tour with me and Diva that even includes a goodie bag from Pleasure Chest thanks to calendar model, Brandon B.

And because we’re big fans of boobs and know you are too, we’d be remiss not to include this shot of the lovely Radical Vixen.

Brandon B. is a New York based sex educator. He performs fun, educating workshops on various topics through The Pleasure Chest. In 2009 he realized a need for a website that was dedicated to educating gay male-bodied individuals about smarter-sex practices and products, so he created The INQUEERY. In it’s first year, The INQUEERY has been featured and praised by various websites and sex educators alike, and has spun off into a gay erotica art zine featuring art by NYC local gay artists and stories by Brandon B. himself.

Brandon and The Pleasure Chest are now a stop on the Tess and Diva Sex NYC Nightlife Tour (patent pending). The winner of the tour will not only spend an evening touring the city the Tess and Diva way, think strip clubs, gay bars, awesome drinks, nipple jewelry and more, but will receive a Pleasure Chest gift bag. Thanks, Brandon. Remember to use put the promo code TOUR in the remarks area at checkout when you buy 5 days for $100 if you want a chance to win this priceless prize.

Way back in February, when we announced that the 2011 calendar was going national and that the funds we raised this year would go to benefit Woodhull Freedom Foundation, June seemed lightyears away. Now, it arrives in about forty-five minutes and since June 1st was the date we promised to announce who was going to be in the calendar, it’s time to do just that.

But first, let me thank all of you, including those who we didn’t have space for, who worked hard to send us images and who wanted to be a part of this very unique and special project. If only there were enough months and space to fit everyone. The choices were hard to make, really hard, but we tried to make the best decisions we could and to fit in as many representations of different sexualities and communities as we could. We found models, or more accurately they found us, who embody the BDSM and leather communities, who show us that sex education is sexy as hell, who proudly represent and create their own porn. We have an erotic model alongside a boot black. A proponent of open marriage. A gay man or two. A straight man. Writers. Bloggers. Sex workers. All these people are so very different but they all have one overwhelming belief that bonds them and makes them ideal for this calendar; they all believe firmly in what Woodhull Freedom Foundation stands for – that sexual freedom is a fundamental human right. And they’re putting their bodies and their faces out there to say it loud and proud.

So without further ado, here’s what you’ve been waiting for, the 2011 NYC Sex Blogger Calendar models are:

Bad Bad Girl

Brandon B

Coy Pink

Dangerous Lilly

Essin’ Em

Lillith Grey

Luna

Matthew Lawrence

Max Lagos

Mollena Williams

Nina Hartley (Shut up! Yes, you heard it right, Nina Hartley)

Radical Vixen

Sexy Sadie

Sovereign Syre (scroll down to her Back in Black video, you will not be disappointed)

Do you count more than 13? Why yes, you do. Don’t worry, we’ve wracked our brains to come up with creative ways to feature as many people as we could and we believe you’ll be very impressed with the finished product. I mean who can you complain about us bringing you more sexy?

You’ve just flipped the January page on your 2010 Sex Blogger Calendar, whispered a fond farewell to the lovely Mia Martina, and greeted the awesome Abiola Abrams, who graces February’s page, and here I am about to talk to you about 2011. If it seems early to you, you’re not alone; it seems early to me too. But 2011 is going to be a bigger and better year, hopefully for all of us, and certainly for this amazing project that started as a whim, a fun project with friends that would benefit our sex positive community, one balmy summer night.

Many of you, after seeing our fabulous calendar or coming to our kick-ass launch party, expressed an interest in being a model. We heard you and we want to give you the opportunity to be even more involved. So for 2011, we’re going NATIONAL! Yes, you heard it right, the NYC SexBlogger Calendar wants to be even more inclusive in 2011. We want any sex positive blogger/internet personality - male, female, gay, straight, queer, trans, any race, any orientation, any size - who writes/podcasts/video blogs about sex or sexuality to feel free to submit a photo. While our 2010 models are free to submit a photo, we’d like nothing better than to get thirteen brand new faces and their accompanying hot bods. I’ll get into those details in a moment, but that’s not the only change we’ve made.

For the last two years, the calendar proceeds have gone to Sex Work Awareness and allowed them to fund Speak Up!, a one day seminar in 2009 that expanded to a weekend in 2010. We are so proud to have provided the funding for those events. Megan Andelloux, in her fight with the town of Pawtucket, RI to open her adult sex education facility, The Center for Sexual Pleasure and Health, used the training she received last year which helped her win battle and CSPH is now open for business. This year, we’re thrilled to announce that the funds raised by the calendar will go to Woodhull Freedom Foundation. Woodhull Freedom Foundation Affirms SexualFreedom as a Fundamental Human Right!

We’ve known of and been supportive of WFF but when we met and talked with the board members and advisory committee of WFF at their fundraiser, a diverse group including the fabulous Carol Queen, we were really impressed with them, their professionalism and their goals. WFF has a broader focus than SWA and we want our little calendar to benefit all kinds of sexual freedom. In changing core attitudes, defining sexual freedom as a basic human right, sex workers too will reap benefits.

Now, how do you submit a photo and what is expected if we pick you to be in the 2011 calendar?

First, you email us one or more professional quality photo that represents what sexual freedom means to you or how you express your sexual freedom. The photo is to be 12 x 12 (this is SQUARE, people, be sure to let the photographer know this in advance of shooting, most photos are rectangular, so the photographer has to look with a different eye in order to shoot for square artwork). The format will be CMYK, 12 x 12 full bleed, 300 DPIx 12 full bleed image. If you’d like to discuss concepts before working with a photographer, please email me at Tess@tiedupevents.com

Along with your photo, please send a short bio and a short (or long, if you’re feeling particularly verbose on the topic) post talking about how your photo represents your sexual freedom. We would like all entrants to be able to attend our launch party on November 5, 201o in NYC, this is one reason we’re giving you all so much notice, so that plans can be hatched and funds reserved. You’ll be required to post a button on your site that links to the calendar blog and once chosen, we’ll provide a special button for models.

Because we want to also support our economy as well as our fundamental right to sexual freedom, despite our difficulties last year, we are committed to printing the calendar in the US of A, we’re not sure how much nudity we can get away with. If you feel like baring it all, we’re right there with you but we also need to be realistic about what we can get printed, so please give us some softer options. Last year, the mere sight of nipples in two photos caused a printer, even in this economy, to turn down the job.

Please include in your email any suggestions you have for promoting the calendar and WFF on your site -contests, etc. Working with us in promoting the calendar is an important component of being a part of this project.

Submissions must be received by May 1, 2010.

More details will follow and we’ll post the Photo Submission Guidelines on a separate page so you can review them easily.

In the meantime, if you’d be so kind as to repost this far and wide, from sea to shining sea, we’d be most appreciative. Let’s get everyone who believes that sexual freedom is a fundamental human right talking and participating in this project and sharing in the fun with us.

Thank you to all of you who have help to support the 2010 calendar buy purchasing days, calendars, twittering and writing about us. We have had great success so far and as of this morning we only have 18 days left open on the calendar for sale. Tomorrow is the last day we will be selling them in order to give us time to put everything together to send to our designer.

We hope that by tomorrow night all 18 of those remaining days will be sold with the full purchase price ($10) going directly to Sex Work Awareness. If you follow us on twitter at NYCSexBlogCal you would have seen the announcement yesterday that the calendar is now fully sponsored. In addition to selling the personalized dates on the calendar we also sold months for sponsorship. We will be updating our Sponsor page over the next week to reflect all the wonderful people and companies who have generously donated funds to sponsor us and cover our production costs.

I thought I would post a round up of what our models have been up to lately and what some people are saying about us. So here goes…..

To kick off the week Calico offered a little incentive to get people motivated buying days. It appears to be a great success if her many posts are an indication. Mina took that idea and also posted some incentives of her own which if sales are any indication seems to have worked. Mina also had her first Hogtied shoot up this week.

Mollena deciding to help out our sales purchased twelve days in the calendar but unbeknownst to her she somehow ended up renting two fetish models. I can’t wait to see the photos.

N offered her own special incentive for buying days with tickets to HyperGender.

Nikol Hasler was talking about what she is up to out in Los Angeles. Did you know Midwest Teen Sex Show is shooting a pilot for Comedy Central right now? Don’t worry we’ll get Nikol back to NYC for the calendar release party on November 6th.

I wrote about my Mother’s Day gift this year over on our sponsor Beyond the Birds and Bees. This is a great site to not only read but you can also submit your own story there. You don’t have to be a blogger to do it either and can be anonymous if you’d like. Just use their “Share Your Story” page. Not sure what to write? Check out their “Writing Prompts” page.

Jamye cooled off and gave us all a sneak preview of her calendar shot this year.

JC also gave us a sneak preview of the calendar photo shoot he did for us with Abiola.

Time Out New York names Audacia’s film The Bi-Apple one of the Best NYC pornos along with our sponsor Candida Royalle’s AfroDite Superstar.

Our sponsor eXtremeRestaints.com had some nice things to say about us on their blog Safe Words.

Babeland blog offered us some link love.

Tess gave an interview to Champagne and Benzedrine.

We have also added the final photographer to our calendar. Sarah Sharp will be shooting Melissa Gira Grant for us. If you’re in NYC you can check out her gallery show she has up right now at Babeland until August 20th.

That about wraps it up for this week. It has been both a fun and a crazy week for us here as we finish up photo shoots, sponsors and selling the personalized days. Yesterday we received a very generous donation toward the calendar that will go directly to Sex Work Awareness. The support we have gotten once again this year has been overwhelming. A giant Thank You to everyone who has been part of that.

Tomorrow is the last day you can purchase a personalize date on the calendar. So buy your days now! After that we will continue to pre-sell the calendars for $20.

With only three days left to buy your personalized dates on the 2010 calendar I wanted to show everyone a few of the things Sex Work Awareness does with the money that is raised from the calendar sales. This past April Sex Work Awareness held their first media training workshop Speak Up! here in New York City.

Below is a PSA that was created that day along with a copy of Calico’s thoughts on what Speak Up! did for her. SWA has been asked to present their media training workshop in other cities around the country but that costs money and with the profits from this calendar they hope to be able to do that.

We have less then 25 days left that remain unsold on the calendar and our hope is that over the next three days we will sell all of them. 100% of your $10 purchase price will go to Sex Work Awareness and help to create more PSA’s like this one below.

cross-posted from Calico’s blog.

What Speak Up! did for me

I came out of Saturday’s Speak Up! Media Training for the Empowered Sex Worker with one simple, sweeping revelation: I am in charge of my message.

Audacia Ray, one of the day’s two trainers, spoke at KinkForAll and said something that made me sit right up: “Damn right I have an agenda.” Of course I have an agenda, too: everyone has one, especially the media. An agenda is not a bad thing, and what’s more, it’s necessary.

Our first exercise: How do we get from this powerful, inarticulate drive we all share to messages we can express? From there, we could move on the core of Speak Up: what can we do to make sure our messages stand up to disinterested, distorting, or actively destructive media interactions?

It was an emotional day for me, not least because we did our first ‘message’ exercise on the recent murder of a masseuse in Boston. I am a decent persuasive writer, but I started to realize my ignorance as we sorted through supporting arguments. (Would mentioning “arrests” arouse sympathy, or would “violence” be a better choice? Can you back up the statement “Sex work is like any other job”? Is the word “screening” insider jargon?)

The toughest part for me was when we ran mock interviews with an antagonistic “reporter”. I didn’t do so well. My mood nosedived as I pushed back against questions like “Why do you think women feel the need to prostitute themselves like this on Craigslist?” There was palpable frustration as we slumped back in our seats to review the videos. After a morning of pre-interview prep, I wasn’t feeling particularly “empowered” — more like “despondent”.

“Did anyone interrupt the reporter, or ask her a question?” Audacia asked. Holy shit. One woman had, and while we listened to her tape, I grew increasingly excited. I had been fending off the “reporter”’s rude and prying inquiries about whether I was a prostitute (I’m not, at least for these purposes, and neither was the victim), how much money I made (I’m not a prostitute!), how I would screen my clients (Don’t you see, it’s not about watching our drinks and the length of our skirts, it’s about men not killing women!).

And I’d been waiting those endless three minutes for my reporter to ask the question, waiting for the one that would let me tell her everything I thought about this woman’s death and the insulting tragedy of the media coverage: waiting for permission. But this was a conversation. Conversations went two ways. I could ask her questions, instead of just defending myself! I don’t need anyone’s permission to speak, any more than I need to answer them when they ask. Oh my God, I could have vibrated right out of my seat.

We even talked about image. As much thought as I had put into dressing carefully (as if you were going to an interview, we’d been told, and so I obeyed it to the letter, with the possible dress-rehearsal concession of purple nail polish) it had never occurred to me that it could be best to not meet a reporter in person. Why give them a paragraph describing your appearance, when that ink could be better spent transcribing what you said?

The section on earned media and new media galvanized me in an entirely different way. Never mind waiting for the call that follows disaster, scandal or newsroom boredom. Here were new-to-me possibilities for action. Did you know you — yes, you — can actually pitch a story to a reporter? Issue a press advisory, a press release, or a public service announcement? And new media (which I already use, albeit without a great deal of direction) gives us the ability to form and maintain relationships and communicate directly with our audience, without an intermediary.

The workshop was everything I wanted, except that I wanted more, more, more. I left feeling for the first time that I could be in control of my message.

And that is both the point and the problem: I’m not yet. I’m still finding the words for what I want to say. I only have the resources to find the tools to make the actions, etc. This is clearly going to be a work of slow progress and many mistakes.

To that end, I really hope some poor biased shmuck hails me in a bar in the next week. Finesse will come, but for now, the sheer force of my positivity might bowl them over.

There was talk of taking Speak Up! to San Francisco and Chicago and a couple of cities in Canada. I hope they can. I also would love to see this as a larger, longer, even more intensive program — perhaps twenty or thirty sex workers, really buckling down for a weekend. If you can donate, or know a potential donor, SWA wants to hear from you.

I want to give a world of thanks to Audacia Ray and Eliyanna Kaiser of Sex Work Awareness for creating this workshop, leading it, and doing the work to make it happen. And in equal measure, I want to thank the women of the NYC Sex Bloggers Calendar who raised the money that made it all possible.

I’m going to be pretty busy in the next couple of weeks as I go to San Francisco, Boston, DC and upstate — oh, and take my finals. But my new video camera will be traveling with me; I’ve done very little but shoot and edit video since I woke up this morning. When I travel, I meet a lot of people with amazing things to say, and I hope from here on out, I’ll be able to share more of those conversations with you.

You can download the 45 page CC licensed training manual PDF here.

This calendar is a fun project for all of us to be part of but it is also a very important one for Sex Work Awareness as their only funding of Speak Up!

… to buy days on the NYC Sex Blogger Calendar, that is.

Since it’s the last week, I’m offering something extra for those who do. Make sure to read down to my in-no-way-officially-sanctioned offer.

While I was in San Francisco last week, Lochai was generous enough to donate his time to the project. I wore a gorgeous latex outfit, a two-piece cream-colored gown complete with a train, and we went to Golden Gate Park in the middle of the day to get a calendar shot for you.

So, besides the inevitable hotness, why should you donate? The calendar project benefits Sex Work Awareness, an organization that advocates for sex workers as well as running the excellent Speak Up! media training. Your dollars buy confidence and a kick in the ass for sex workers like me to speak out, to blog, to make videos, to talk back to reporters, to school our friends and to stand up to our enemies. I wrote about the last Speak Up! all in a tizzy.

Why else should you donate? To make this extra-juicy, I want to play a game with you during the last week:

If you buy one day, for $10, I will send you a (non-nude) snapshot of me, lookin’ all cute, with a thank-you or a personalized message! Just forward your receipt to misscalico at gmail dot com, with the message you’d like. Make sure to let me know whether you’d rather I email it to you, so it’s yours-all-yours, or post it here to show the Internet how special you are to me.

Two days, or $20, would buy you a lapdance if you came to my club. So for a $20 receipt, I will be delighted to do the same … topless! Remember, a lapdance is over in three minutes, but as my mom would say, that picture is forever.

For three days, or one day and a calendar ($30) I’ll get all the way nekkid and take your personalized photo with whatever body part you like. Really. Any of ‘em!
Big spenders: we’ll talk.

If you don’t know what to put on your day, I think it would be great if you bought a day for your favorite blog (not necessarily mine, even!), a sex-positive charity (Scarleteen and NCSF come to mind), an independent pornographer or artist, an inspiring quote, or a friend or lover.

Or just donate! I’ll still get naked for you. Remember, send your receipts (and your message and directions) to misscalico at gmail dot com. I hope you play!

Curious what type of requests Calico is getting? Check out these pictures here.
