Premature Ejaculation

What is Premature Ejaculation?

Premature ejaculation is the condition in which the male partner ejaculates before he or his partner would like to. Premature ejaculation is also referenced as rapid ejaculation, rapid climax, early ejaculation or rapid climax. A widely know definition for premature ejaculation is the one originating from Masters and Johnson, a research team studying the nature of human sexual response and the diagnosis and treatment of sexual disorders and dysfunctions. As of that definition, premature ejaculation is the condition that causes the male to ejaculate early on a sexual encounter; before his female partner reaches orgasm in at least 50% of the times.

Nevertheless, there is no specific criteria under which we can consider premature ejaculation present in a man’s sex life. And that’s because each man or even couple, defines premature ejaculation given their own sense of time and definition of pleasure. However, it is generally accepted that an ejaculation occurring 2 minutes after penetration is in fact a rapid ejaculation. Considering that the average intravaginal ejaculation latency time is 6,5 minutes in males between the age of 18 and 30.

Primary and Secondary Premature Ejaculation

P.E. can be categorized in two major types. Primary and Secondary. Primary is the rapid climax present from the moment the male enters puberty and Secondary is the rapid climax occurring later in a man’s life.

Global and Situational Premature Ejaculation

Early ejaculation is further categorized in Global and Situational. A premature ejaculation state is global when the condition is present in every encounter, regardless of the female partner or conditions applying. A rapid ejaculation is labeled as conditional when it only occurs with specific partners and/or under certain situations.

Is Premature Ejaculation Common?

It is estimated that every man will experience premature ejaculation at least once in their lifetime. Given the fact that each person defines what a rapid ejaculation is differently (in terms of minutes), it is relatively hard to estimate an exact percentage of men that suffer from the condition. Thus, estimates vary from as low as 5% and as high as 40%.

Treatment for premature ejaculation begins by knowing what premature ejaculation really is and what causes it. Premature ejaculation, also known as PE, is a common condition where a man achieves early ejaculation much ahead than his partner would want him to. It is sometimes referred to as early or rapid ejaculation or premature rapid climax. As in all medical conditions, successful treatment for premature ejaculation calls for knowing the medical history of the person undergoing the treatment for premature ejaculation as it has been documented by the 1950s survey made by Alfred Kinsey that ¾ of men reach ejaculation in two minutes after penetration in more than one half of their sexual meetings.

Establishing a treatment for premature ejaculation

It has been observed that in the process of establishing a treatment for premature ejaculation on patients who were experiencing the condition, a great number of men suffered PE at some point of their lives. As well as that there are plenty of variables to be considered while establishing a treatment for premature ejaculation in terms of duration of the sexual encounter and duration of the ejaculation. A premature ejaculation quantitative definition was formed by researchers’ en route to a better prognosis for men looking to stop premature ejaculation and deal with it from its very roots, allowing couples to last longer.

Evidence is supportive in the establishment of the so-called IELT or the I-ntravaginal E-jaculation L-atency T-ime being 6.5 minutes is average for ages 18-30. If the percentage is in the range below 2.5 the need for a possible treatment for premature ejaculation is probably high, since the IELT shows duration of less than two minutes.

However, a treatment for premature ejaculation with an IELT of less than 120 seconds may not at all be necessary, as studies have shown that men are generally satisfied with such performance and do not report deficiency of control in their ejaculation. Thus, they can not be considered to be having PE, but there are men with an IELT of 120 seconds or more, but perceives their performance to be below par, causing undue distress on their personality and leading to difficulty in their interpersonal relations. This would be a good time to try come up with a way to stop premature ejaculation.

Some cases in the treatment for premature ejaculation, have their focus in training gradually patients towards mental concentration in the sex act. And thus, develop control on stimulation. Clinical tests done to develop a treatment for premature ejaculation, had cases in order to develop medicine to aid in slowing down responsiveness to arousal.

Among the drugs used to treat premature ejaculation, Dapoxetine or priligy is a serotonin selective inhibitor, which is sold in the market promising to help to stop premature ejaculation. It is the only drug approved and regulated for conditions in the treatment for premature ejaculation. European countries like Germany, Finland, Austria, Portugal and Sweden are among the countries whose governments have approved it. In other countries of the EU, the drug is still under consideration for approval. The united States FDA is at phase III of their process of approval of the same drug. However, it is absolutely necessary that you consult your doctor before taking ANY action against premature ejaculation. On top of that, you should try to stop premature ejaculation naturally.
