History of Woodhull
It started all with Victoria Woodhull.
Victoria Woodhull was born on September 23, 1838 to a poor family. During a rocky marriage, Victoria began to solidify her commitment to free love, spirituality, and women’s rights. Victoria was a stockbroker and newspaper editor in the late 1800s.
Victoria ran for President of the United States in the 1800s even though women were not allowed to vote or have any official voice in government. After that Presidential run, Victoria began various campaigns to support the right of every person to have fundamental human rights, including sexual freedom. Victoria believed that everyone had a right to have individual freedom in choosing partners, marrying, and freedom from government intrusion into US citizen’s lives.
Victoria died June 9, 1927 in England after her nation rejected her pleas for fundamental human rights for every citizen.
Victoria’s work was almost lost to time until a group of committed and thoughtful citizens reignited Victoria’s fight. In 2003 Mary Frances Berry, Mary Frances Berry, Melinda Chateauvert, Richard O. Cunningham, Judy
Guerin-Cunningham and Ricci J. Levy founded Woodhull Freedom Foundation to promote sexual freedom as a fundamental human right.
The money raised from the 2011 calendar will help Woodhull continue its message and promote sexual freedom. They will use some of the money to bring the message of sexual freedom as a fundamental human right to every corner of the US and continue to publish the sexual freedom report.

The NYC Sex Bloggers Calendar seeks to bring the sex-positive community together in a fun and interactive way that results in the funding of sex-positive organizations. We believe that sexual freedom is a basic human right and we hope that our calendar succeeds in spreading that idea far and wide. The benefactor chosen for 2011 is Woodhull Freedom Foundation - Affirming Sexual Freedom as a Fundamental Human
Right.
